Restlessness in Midlife: A Wake-Up Call, Not a Breakdown

Unsettled? Restless? Blurred? What is your body telling you?

Have you ever had that feeling you can’t quite put your finger on, but know something is not right?
That feeling that something’s off, but you don’t know exactly what?

Maybe you’ve looked around your life and thought, “Everything should be fine... so why am I so unsettled?”

That, my friend, is restlessness.
And it doesn’t mean something’s wrong with you—
It might mean something is waking up in you.

🚨 Restlessness Is a Signal, not a Symptom

We’ve been taught to silence restlessness from an early age.
Ignore it.
Push it down.
Call it “a phase,” “hormones,” or “just being ungrateful.”

But restlessness isn’t a flaw. It’s feedback from within.
It’s your inner knowing gently (or not so gently) nudging you:
“You have become complacent.  It is time to stretch and become who you are meant to be right now in this period of your life.”

It’s the soul’s version of a low battery warning, even an alert that you’re outgrowing parts of your current reality.

🔍 What Your Restlessness Might Be Saying

Let’s be honest, feeling unsettled can look different at different stages of life and even for each person.

  • You feel irritated more often than inspired.
  • You find yourself scrolling endlessly, but nothing satisfies your curiosity.
  • You keep daydreaming about “starting over” or doing something different.
  • You feel physically tired but emotionally wired.

If these sound anything like you, here’s what it might mean underneath:

  1. You’re craving alignment – Something inside of you is ready for deeper truth, purpose, freedom, or a combo of all.
  2. You’re overdue for expansion – Growth is calling, and your comfort zone is getting... well, the same as it has been for too long.
  3. Your values have shifted – What mattered five years ago doesn’t spark joy in you anymore. You’ve evolved, but your life might not have caught up yet.
  4. You need a pause, not a push – Restlessness can also be your nervous system asking for space to recalibrate before the next big thing.

🌱 What You Can Do with Restlessness

Instead of shutting it down, try tuning in by asking yourself these questions: “Where in my life am I pretending to be okay when I’m not?”

  • “What parts of my life feel heavy? What parts feel light?”
  • “If I were brave enough to listen to what I really want, what would I hear?”

There is no pressure! You don’t have to quit your job, move across the country, or launch a business tomorrow.

But maybe you should start journaling again.  There’s a freebie with this blog post!!!
Maybe you could sign up for that course you’ve been eyeing.
Maybe you say no to what drains you and yes to what lights you up.

Restlessness doesn’t mean you're lost.
It means your compass is spinning, and that’s a good thing.  We are not meant to stagnate.  We are meant to LIVE OUR LIFE JOYFULLY!
This restlessness means you're ready for more.

And guess what?

You get to create “more” on your terms.
